Codes and Conventions

Firstly the people who are featuring in the magazine help portray what genre the magazine is. Musicians who are currently in the genre of R&B are: Bradley Moore, T-Pain, Pretty Ricky, and Bobby Valentino.

Legendary R&B artists are: R-Kelly, J-Holiday, John Legend, Boys II Men.

All these artists are known musicians by not only fans of R&B however in the mass media; this will attract the reader to buy the magazine, as they are well known artists.
My article on Bradley will be about his recovery in hospital and how he got back on his feet quickly to release his new album. Also, it will be about his past life, latest gossip in his life and if he is a changed man.

As the main article is about Bradley I will have 3 double-paged spreads about him.

I will have a poster of Bradley Moore as he will be the star feature in my magazine, and as he is one of the main R&B artists in the world; I believe some people will want to buy the magazine partly due to the poster of Bradley, practically females as Bradley will be portrayed as a ‘ladies man’ in the article.
There is going to be some indirect advertising, as I am reviewing many famous singers albums, including R-Kelly’s new album, it is good to publish reviews on peoples albums who have a large fan base as this will also attract and entice the audience/fans.
My magazine will be a monthly magazine, as I believe these types of magazines can contain much more important and exciting information rather than having a weekly magazine, which is often filled with just gossip. Also due to the genre (R&B) having such a large fan base I believe if I produce a monthly magazine consumers will start treating the magazine as a collectors item which will increase subscriptions.

Production Post 4

I have completed annotation on 3 double paged spreads from music magazines that are well known in the market. I have annotated them in depth which has helped me when it comes to creating my own magazine; I now know what my double paged spreads need to include and how I can make my double paged spreads look professional like a real magazine. For instance now I know that when creating a double paged spread usually the main article of the magazine has two to three double paged spreads; the first one usually contains a large picture that covers both pages and approximately contains 300-400 words, then the second double paged spread has the bulk of the text which may have 3-4 smaller pictures and 700-800 words.

Double Paged Spread, Annotation 3

Double Paged Spread3

The main feature of this double paged spread for me was the quote and the font/colour of the quote. I really like the idea of having a quote of what the musician said which really stands out, it almost makes the reader feel that the artist has written that themselves.

Double Paged Spread, Annotation 2

Double Paged Spread2

This double paged spread is very nice as it only has 300/400 words on it and the rest is large image; this is nice for an introduction double paged spread to the main feature article as it gives the reader something to look at other than just a whole page of text.

Double Paged Spread, Annotation 1

Annotation Double Paged Spread1

This double page spread is very eye catching, and the more magazines I annotate the more I realise that you have to do something different to everyone else. For instance this double paged spread has a very large red 'L' which stands for Lady Gaga. The image of Lady Gaga taking up half the double paged spread has inspired me and I am very keen on re-enacting this type of double paged spread.

Production Post 3

I have completed 3 annotated music magazine covers, 3 annotated music magazine contents pages. I have also done a preliminary task, which was to create a cover page and contents page for a Haydon school magazine. All of these tasks I have done will help me when I do my actual music magazine, as it has given me an idea on how to create a magazine and the main features you need o create a magazine.
It has helped me understand the basic set out of cover pages and contents pages on music magazines and certain magazines, such as: vibe, Q magazine. These magazines have inspired me with some ideas for my own magazine and I would like to re-enact some of these ideas as I believe it will make my magazine look much more professional.

Contents Page Annotation 3

Annotation Contents3

The contents page for 'Q' magazine in this edition is nice as it names the main features of the magazine and makes it clear who those main features are with a picture and what page they are on. I like the fact that they are clear on who the main features are and this will be another thing I will like to re-create.

Contents Page Annotation 2

Annotation of Content2

I really liked this contents page as not only was the image very unique and original however the way contents is written is also original, this has inspired me to do something creative and out of the ordinary. I will also try and create an image that stands out like this one.

Contents Page Annotation 1

Annotation Content 1

This contents page was one of the first ones I came across that was very interesting. I was interested in the the fact that they have gone with a very simple approach with just two pictures and writing down the side. It made me understand that some magazine contents pages have many pictures with an average amount of information and some (like this one) has only two pictures with an adequate amount of information.

Front Cover Annotation 3

Cover Annotation

This is another front cover that I decided to annotate due to it being another eye catching cover that as the power to engage with the buyers. The magazine I previously annotated caught my eye due to the bright, fascinating colours; however this one caught my attention because of the three very simple colours used on the cover, black, white and red. This has taught me that I don't have to use lots of bright colours to attract the customers, I learnt that you can also go to the complete opposite and use one certain colour that stands out e.g. red.

Front Cover Annotation 2

Front Cover 2 Annotation

This magazine stood out to me whilst I was looking through many front cover magazine, preferably for the bright, attracting colours portrayed; orange, yellow, pink, white. This has inspired me and made me realise that my front cover has to have some sort of image or text that entices the audience and makes them want to pick up the magazine.

Front Cover Annotation 1

Front Cover1 Annotation

Annotating this front cover has given me and idea of have a logo like the magazine 'Q' which is white text with a red square back ground. This appeals to me as it stands out and it is a simple logo that stays in the consumers minds. I also believe that the big red text going across the magazine saying 'madonna' catches the readers eye and entices people to read the magazine; I would like to re-enact this if possible.

production post 2

This picture of Joe the R&B singer has many connotations of soul music as it is pleasent to the eye and hasnt got that many colours in it. Alothough it is a dark picture it still portrays a sense of relaxtion and R&B type music, the word 'S.O.U.L' also helps add to the theme of R&B. This is because soul links with R&B music quite a lot. The picture is also not to loud, this is the type of picture I will want to do as i think these type of pictures are the most effective.
